foster parenting babies

foster parenting babies
i want to become a foster parent for a baby bunny. do you know where i can do this??…?

i rescued a baby cottontail bunny the other day and took it to a animal rescue shelter because those bunnies are wild so i couldnt keep it but i do want to car for one and open my home up too a baby bunny that is too young and needs help i have pets right now so i dont mean to keep it unless i get super attached but i would like to care for one and help take care of one until it finds a good permanent home….Is there anywhere i can go to help??…

P.S. WHERE CAN I GET THE BABY BOTTLES THEY NEED TO FEED THEM WHEN THEY ARE TOO YOUNG TO EAT BY THEMSELVES??….

Contact your local rabbit rescue. Call your local animal shelter, too. If they work with rescues, like mine does, they can give you their contact info so you can get a hold of them. If the shelter can’t help then call house rabbit society (HRS). While they do NOT do rescue, they should know what rescues are in your area and can put you in contact with them.

Bottle fed baby rabbits do not have a very high mortality rate. You will need training on how (and when) to properly tube feed and find someone who knows how to do it and is willing to teach you. It’s done differently with rabbits than with dogs and cats.

You should also be prepared for frequent deaths. You can find articles online about dealing with so called “frozen” litters or “lazarus” babies but the success rate for them is certainly not 100%, either.

Baby rabbits are much better left nursing from mom even if they look like they are not thriving. You need to become familiar with the process of kindling (giving birth) through weaning.

On the other hand, I know that there are loads of bunnies at shelters that need someone to go hold and pet them daily, sex them correctly (is it male or female), and groom them (especially trimming nails) so that they can be socialized enough to be adopted out to a good family and not be put down because it is scared or can’t be handled.

Enjoy and good luck.
