Christian parents: What is the purpose of telling your children about Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny?
Do they help you teach a greater moral lesson? Is it just for fun?
I think it is mainly for fun. I was raised Catholic and I think it was fun to be able to believe. I do think that it is important, however, that it is explained to the child at a later age that believing in Christ is not the same as believing as these characters. I was devastated when my parents told me the truth! I thought “well if they were lying about Santa and the Easter Bunny, are they lying about Jesus?”. I really thought it was a big conspiracy against the kids of the world– and when you think about it– it sort of is.
